West Hartford Firefighters Mourn the passing of Apparatus Operator Greg Spak 1953 - 2007. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
SPAK, Gregory Simon Gregory S. Spak, 53, husband of Theresa (Terry) Hunt Spak, died peacefully at his home in Granby on Friday, (July 27, 2007) after a courageous two year and seven month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on December 24, 1953, he was the son of George Spak and the late Alice (Olga) Spak. Greg grew up in Ellington and graduated from Ellington High School in 1971. He volunteered at the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department for five years. In 1987 he joined the West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241 of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). He was promoted from Firefighter to Apparatus Operator in 1994. Greg was very dedicated to his profession and he always enjoyed his work at the West Hartford fire stations, even throughout his illness. Besides Terry, his loving wife of 13 years, Greg leaves his son, Samuel; his father, George Spak; three brothers, George Spak, Jr. and his wife Carol of South Windsor, Eugene Spak and his wife Marie of Willington, and Jeffrey Spak and his companion Wendy of Ellington; three sisters, Christine Dipippo of Ellington, Denise Desjardins and her husband James of Hebron, and Maria Kamal and her husband David of Hebron; and his many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. Besides his mother, Greg was predeceased by his sister, Laverne; and his sister-in-law, Darlene Spak. He also leaves Terry's loving family in St. Louis, MO. Greg enjoyed Nascar racing and golf, and he participated in many golf tournaments to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Most of all, he loved spending time with his young son Samuel. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Greg's family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Ramon Jimenez, Dr. Robert Siegel, and the staff at the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center and Hartford Hospital, along with the West Hartford Firefighters of IAFF Local 1241. private.
